An Interesting Tidbit

I got this bit-o-info from my Aunt JoAnn this weekend. Thought I would share it with everyone.

THIS MAY COME AS A SURPRISE TO THOSE OF YOU NOT LIVING IN LAS VEGAS, BUT THERE ARE MORE CATHOLIC CHURCHES THAN CASINOS.

NOT SURPRISINGLY, SOME WORSHIPPERS AT SUNDAY SERVICES WILL GIVE CASINO CHIPS RATHER THAN CASH WHEN THE BASKET IS PASSED.

SINCE THEY GET CHIPS FROM MANY DIFFERENT CASINOS, THE CHURCHES HAVE DEVISED A METHOD TO COLLECT THE OFFERINGS.

THE CHURCHES SEND ALL THEIR COLLECTED CHIPS TO A NEARBY FRANCISCAN MONASTERY FOR SORTING AND THEN THE CHIPS ARE TAKEN TO THE CASINOS OF ORIGIN AND CASHED IN.

THIS IS DONE BY THE CHIP MONKS !!!!

Hello, My Name Is Amy and I am an iPod Addict.

When I have free time, I find myself cleaning up my music, grabbing music off my cds, finding album art, etc. Seriously, whats the big deal? Its just an iPod. Maybe its the novelty of it still, who knows. All I know is that I need help.

Smashing Pumpkins

I have been busy at work lately and haven't had a chance to write about the Smashing Pumpkins show we went to a couple weeks ago at the 9:30 Club in DC. The show was their official CD release party for Zeigheist, so they really played that up.

The Pumpkins had a special event planned for the first 200 people in line, which we were. They started handing out SP posters, shirts, flags, etc. Then they gave some people the propaganda SP picket signs and made a mock political rally theme thing, with fake protesters and stuff. It was a little silly, but you'll have that. About 10 minutes before the doors opened, a black SUV and 2 classic black 50’s Buicks pulled up, with the band members inside the cars. Fake secret service guys escorting the band in. Billy was eating it up, he got out of the car and starting do the Nixon peace sign pose and shook some hands. This all took place right in front of Marc and I. The band played for at least 3 hours (a mix of most their cds). It was a good show. If we were huge Pumpkin fans, it would have been an awesome experience.

Here are a couple pictures from the night, look at my Picasa site if you want to see more pictures and videos.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Shelley Duncan.

Shelley Duncan, son of David Duncan (pitching coach of the Cardinals) and brother of Chris Duncan (LF Cardinals), made is MLB debut this weekend. In 2 games, he hit 3 HRs. I am not sure if its the adrenaline of his debut or if this kid is going to bring another big bat to the Yanks. I guess we just need to wait and see.

Concert Goers.

Our second part of the summer concert schedule is as follows:

Smashing Pumpkins, DC - 9:30 Club July 10th.
Peter Paul and Mary, VA - Wolf Trap August 11th (Marc will not be attending)
Alice in Chains/Velvet Revolver, Atlantic City - Borgata August 25th.

Can I get some help convincing Marc to go to Hippiefest with me July 30th at Wolf Trap?

Am I The Last One?

I am the last one in the Renkes-Lovelady household to get an mp3 player. Marc usually ends up with the electronic toys (mp3 players, satellite radio, etc). I lied, I get the cameras and Marc gets the music gadgets. Nonetheless, I finally got a music gadget. I have been fighting the power for a long time and not wanting to give into the iPod craze. I was like the old woman still renting a phone from the phone company. The days of creating cds for myself are over. Its been a long time coming. I blame a friend of mine that has an awesome travel speaker set for his iPod. I saw the speakers and wanted one. Call it an early B-day gift, call it a really nice gesture, call it I have a great husband.

Here is my new toy. Now, if I can just learn how to work the thing.....

Guest Blogger

Well Hello!

Gotcha! By the sound of my greeting, you may think I am miss Amy Lovelady, but I am not. I go by the name of "X-lackadaisical" and have been posting only comments up until this point. Since stumbling upon this particular "Blog" (I hate that term with passion btw), I feel like I have come to know the author and asked if I could contribute. She obliged and here I am with my inaugural post.

I will get the ball rolling with a little quiz...

Please refer to the attached logo of a very popular shipping corporation.
If anyone can spot the grammatical incorrectness in the logo, I will email you 5 Shrute Bucks. "What is a Shrute Buck?" you say. Well, I can answer that very easily. It's the equivalent of 5 million Stanley Nickles. All clear now? Great.

CNN

Am I the only one that does NOT like the new "look and feel" of CNN.com?

Great day to play ball !!

If you live in the DC area, do you remember playing softball in the summer when its not extremely hot and humid? In the 7 years that Marc and I have been here, we have always played ball in the extreme heat. That is, until yesterday. It was 80 degrees and sunny, no humidity and a slight breeze. It was an absolute glorious day to play ball. Ironically, I didn't even play. I sat out and kept score because we had a lot of players show up. I didn't even mind, I got to watch the game, tell people where to play and sit back and relax. We won 26 - 7, I can't believe how great our team hit (maybe it was the weather), Marc hit 3 home runs!

What a great day to play ball.

From now on...

I know where I will be every Sunday from 10:00 - 4:00. Clyde's Willow Creek Farm, that is where. Last Sunday, Marc and I had brunch at Clyde's, I forgot how much I enjoyed that wonderful meal of food. We started off with the buttermilk biscuits with strawberry rhubarb butter. Marc said they were the best biscuits he has ever had and I would agree. They were so delightful, I found the biscuit chef and told him I loved his work. I had a cup of minestrone soup, made from fresh veggies from Clyde's garden, it was bursting with flavor. I ordered the french toast, which was an enormous piece of bread that filled the plate and filled my mouth with cinnamony goodness. Marc had the oatmeal pancakes which were a pure delight. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to brunch on Sunday, you really will not regret it.

And I am done.
