A Whale of a Good Time
Marc and I went on a whale watching cruise the other day. It wasn't much a cruise, rather a really fast new boat. We set out from Lahaina Harbor on search of a few humpback whales in their natural habitat. We were successful. We followed a mom and her calf, plus an escort. An escort whale basically follows the female whale around until the following mating season, then they have whale sex, then a baby.
Boats need to stay 100 yards from a whale, unless of course the whales swim up to the boat. A couple times during the tour, the whales got pretty darn close. It was kinda freaky, but cool at the same time. They are enormous! We were lucky enough to get a few pictures of the tail, no such luck on the breaching. Oh well, maybe another time.
